20 years ago.....

I was there when they ordained this guy a patriarch and Elder Wirthlin was there for Stake conference and gave him a blessing. I am surprised he is still going at it. I was just talking about him in a little talk I gave to the young men in the ward about my mission.

Oldest man in the world

Here is his website... He lives in Great Falls http://www.greatfallstribune.com/multimedia/breuning2/page4.html

I am glad the Deseret news is not in charge of our road. Nothing makes me madder than when I have to stop every once in a while to pay a toll. Toll roads are usually the ones that are in the worst shape and the politicians always find something else to spend the money on. Vote out any leader who even suggests toll roads. I don't care who he is. Anyone that thinks toll roads are a good idea needs to go drive around Chicago for just one day. It is a big pain in the neck.

Elder Zwick meeting

I got to go to a meeting last night where Elder Zwick of the 1st Quorom of the 70 was the main speaker. I thought I'd post some interesting comments from the meeting while home for lunch.
His wife spoke also and shared an experience they had while serving as mission president in Chile. She said they had just gotten home from taking the previous mission president couple to the airport when the phone rang. It was their first call. A missionary was on the phone said he didn't know them and they didn't know him but he was calling from a pay phone and the only thing he was wearing was his companions coat. They had been teaching some people in a church house when some armed gunmen stormed in. They made one of the missionaries undress inforn of some seminary students the gunmen then poured stuff on his clothes and lit them on fire which in turn was causing the meeting house to burn down. Then he said, "What do you want me to do?"

She didn't elaborate on what happened next or anything but I thought that was quite a story.

One of Elder Zwicks responsibilities is organizing and reorganizing missions and so forth. He said that just this week 3 new districts in 3 spots in China were done. I don't know what that means because that wasn't his topic but thought I'd share it anyway. The only other message I was going to share (because I have never thought of it this way)was one he directed at the Rexburg area which would apply to most of you as well, living in large LDS communities was on missionaries. One of the things we could do to help the missionaries was to have them into our homes more often. They would benefit from seeing a strong gospel family in action in their daily activiies. This would benefit the missionary later in life maybe with an investigator or after their mission when they go home and want to start a family. It would help give them something to strive for. He of course said it alot better than it looks reading it right now but that is the best I can give from my notes.

Here are some things to look up if interested that he quoted from as well dealing with missionary work. I didn't write down the whole quote just where to find it.
Preach my Gospel(PMG) pg160
read ch 3 from PMG learn a 5, 10 and 20minute version of it.
Mormon 6:17
Dec 2002 1st presidency message on missionary work.
Jan2003 1st leadership broadcast pg 18
PMG pg 214
March 2005 1st presidency msg on ward mission plan.

thanks for reading

Mission Letters

Here is a letter adressed to “The Skinflint family”

Feb 19 1989

Howdy family!!!

Well here I am at the M.T.C Sorry about this paper if you cant read it too well. The M.T.C is great and it is full of love and kindness. We have 12 people in our district (Santa Ana district) two of which are girls. They have a real hard time because they have to be alone while the rest of us can go have fun and mess around at night in the dorms. This has been a spiritual and neat experience for me . I have finally learned to feel the spirit and know that this church is true. Yesterday we had missionary day and we had to go tracting around the M.T.C to fake investigators. We gave the discussion to one pair of missionaries but they where half asleep and we didn’t really get a taste of what it was really like. It was funner when me and my companion had to play the role of the investigator. When they asked us questions abou the holy ghost we could feel the holy ghost inside of us. The food here is alright it could be better but the spiritual food here is what I really like!!! Today in sacrament meeting they called Elder Bartholomew as our district leader. Tuesday we have a fireside by Vaugh J Featherstone it shoudl be good.

In case your wondering what my schedule is here it is.
6:00 get up 6:30 eat 7:15 class 11:20 eat 12:05 class 3:00 gym, 4:30 eat 5:30 class 9:30 quiet time 10:40 go to bed
So all we do is eat go to class and sleep. My p-day is Wednesday so we’ll probably go to the temple at around 6:00 in the morning.

I had to get my haircut Mom so I guess you didn’t cut it short enough. It cost $5. Dad do you remember Lakei Heimuli? He was a running back at BYU. Well his brother is in by district . He has a scholarship at BYU to play football but he decided to go on a mission. He is a cool guy. All the guys in my district are cool. I got a tetanus shot Wednesday but it didn’t hurt so that’s good. Well everybody be good. Hyun go on a mission you’ll love it. Love Elder Skinner
